During the summer, the South Shore streets come to life with festivals and events. From May through September, you can find a fun special event almost every weekend. We asked our Northwest Indiana fans, followers and subscribers to vote for the Top 10 Summer Festival and Events in the South Shore and here they are:

#1 - South Shore Air Show - July 6, 7 and 8, 2012
Marquette Park, 1 N. Grand Blvd., Gary, IN
Sit in the sun and sand at Marquette Park and Beach and watch military and civilian acts performing amazing aerial acrobatics over Lake Michigan. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds return to the South Shore skyline in 2012. There's also a twilight show with a fireworks finale on Friday.
#2 - Festival of the Lakes - July 18-22, 2012
Wolf Lake, George Lake and Lake Michigan, Hammond, IN
Come out for 5 days and 6 nights of fun on Wolf Lake, George Lake and Lake Michigan. Rides, live entertainment, Polka Party, fishing derby, vendors, games and more! This year's entertainment includes MC Hammer, George Clinton, Los Lonely Boys and Music of Led Zeppelin - a Rock Symphony.
#3 - Milk Cow Music Festival - June 2, 2012
Fair Oaks Farms, 856 N 600 E, Fair Oaks, IN
Featuring Little Texas, a State Championship Barbecue Contest and a Huge Country Car Show. It's all General Admission Lawn Seating, so bring your lawn chair! Coolers and food will not be allowed on the Fair Oaks Farms events field, but beverages and food can be purchased on the field. Adult beverages, both microbrews and domestic brands, will be provided by Crown Brewing Co. of Crown Point, IN.
#4 - Pierogi Fest - July 27-29, 2012
119th Street, Whiting, IN
Visit Whiting, IN for food of all sorts, the Pierogi Parade, games, beer garden, musical entertainment and just plain fun for all ages. Where else can you see grown women dressed up like our grandmothers (bushas, as we say) in housecoats and babushkas? Or the lawnmower brigade strut through town with sandals and socks on like our dads did? Only at Pierogi Fest.
#5 - Lake County Fair - August 3-12, 2012
Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Crown Point, IN
Family-oriented annual county fair with over 30 rides, hundreds of concessions, horse shows, contests, live entertainment and motorsports as well as thousands of exhibits and all types of food!! Visit their website for full details on events, entertainment, pricing and more.
#6 - Popcorn Festival - September 8, 2012
Downtown Valparaiso, IN
The Valparaiso Popcorn Festival offers family-fun activities for all ages. Over 200 arts & crafts booths, 30 food booths, kids' games, the five-mile Popcorn Panic, and the nation's First Popcorn Parade are only the beginning of the excitement of this incredible festival.
#7 - Wizard of Oz Festival - September 14-16, 2012
Downtown Chesterton, IN
Follow the Yellow Brick Road Parade as it winds through town, enjoy the collections and excitement of the auction at the Oz Collectors Exchange and Auction. Come out for Brunch with the Munchkins, visit the many contests, browse through the vendor booths featuring everything from hand-crafted artisan wares to the ever-popular Oz memorabilia.
#8 - Bizarre Bazaar, September 15, 2012
Harrison Park/Hohman Avenue, Hammond, IN
Admission is free. Attractions include bands, vendors, children's games and art activities, a car show and community yard sale. Join the unexpected, outrageous, and whimsically bizarre extravaganza that offers something for everyone!
#9 - Taste of the Region and Arts and Crafts Festival - June 22-24, 2012
Downtown Crown Point, IN
Over 80 Arts & Crafters take over the lawn of the Old Lake County Courthouse, while over 40 restaurants and caterers serve up their specialties on the surrounding streets. A kids area, live musical entertainment & a beer garden are all part of the fun.
#10 - Porter County Fair - July 19-28, 2012
Porter County Fairgrounds and Expo Center, 217 E. Division Rd. Valparaiso, IN
The Porter County Fair brings a great combination of fun rides, delicious food, 4-H exhibits and activities and some great entertainment including the demolition derby and bull riding!
