With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it can become a little stressful planning a fun (and affordable) date. However, all you love birds are in luck, because the South Shore is full of great places to take your special someone this Valentine's Day! Here are a couple of my personal favorites:
This "simply splashtastic" waterpark is turned into an ice skating wonderland once the temperature starts dropping. Skate rentals are really reasonably priced and they serve snacks and hot cocoa! Hint: go at night and skate under the stars to make this date extra romantic!
This exhibit is a collection of artwork by Mitch Markovitz including early artwork, original paintings and a collection of original paintings from the South Shore Line poster series. The exhibit is open through March 22 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond and is free to enter.
• Horse-drawn Sleigh Rides at Buckley Homestead
Is there anything more romantic than a horse-drawn sleigh ride? Buckley Homestead in Lowell is offering this delightful experience on weekends through February 24, weather permitting. The ride is $2 per person and lasts about 20 minutes. Bring your own blanket and bundle up with your Valentine as a horse takes you through the snowy paths of the farm. Make sure you call ahead of time to confirm that rides are being offered at (219) 696-0769.
You'll want to make sure your date has had a delicious and memorable meal, too. The South Shore is full of amazing restaurants that both you and your Valentine will love!
Here are a few romantic restaurants to help keep this Valentine's Day date going:
• Voted as one of the "Top 5 Most Romantic Restaurants along the South Shore" by the SSCVA's Facebook fans, Sage Restaurant in Valparaiso will definitely live up to its honors. Sage fuses American and Italian cuisine while combining locally grown ingredients to make for a truly special meal.
• Café Fondue in Merrillville will keep the fun coming with their interactive meals. Start with an absolutely delicious and creamy fondue cheese appetizer. Choose from numerous entrees and combos, and finish with a decadent chocolate, raspberry or caramel fondue dessert. This is definitely an experience that won't soon be forgotten!
There are many other romantic restaurants found along the South Shore. Be sure to check out our list at www.southshorecva.com/love to help you plan your Valentine's Day!
