I love taking photos - mainly because my smart phone has made it so easy to capture so many moments, so many sunsets and so many pieces of art. I enjoy traveling through communities and seeing (and sharing) these moments through the lens of a camera.

The South Shore features a number of art pieces and sculptures for everyone to enjoy. Downtown Crown Point recently installed 12 sculptures depicting people engaged in everyday activities. These life-size cast bronze figures can be found around the Old Lake County Courthouse into the fall. I drive through Crown Point on a regular basis and each and every time I am blown away at the detail of each of the figures! I mistakenly thought that the figure in "Captured" was a real person. The highlight of Seward Johnson's sculptures is located at the Crown Point Sportsplex on North Street. Abraham Lincoln talks with the "common man" and stands 3 stories high. Take part in the scavenger hunt contest and photo contest when you visit.

The Rotblatt-Amrany Trail is also a great place to start for taking in public art. You may be familiar with Rotblatt-Amrany pieces if you've seen "The Spirit" of Michael Jordan at the United Center or the sculpture of Frank Thomas at US Cellular Field. Rotblatt-Amrany also has statues in northwest Indiana including at the Community Veterans Memorial. Set on 6.5 acres, the bronze and granite sculptures and monuments depict the major military conflicts and honor those that have given their lives for our freedom.

You can also sit on a park bench with Orville Redenbacher at Central Park in Valparaiso as well as pose with "Flick" from "A Christmas Story" at the Indiana Welcome Center. There are more than a dozen stops from here to Chicago along the Rotblatt-Amrany Trail.

For a truly spiritual journey, the Shrine of Christ's Passion is a must-stop for public art. Visitors can take the journey along the half-mile path featuring 40 life-size bronze statues. You'll want to spend an entire afternoon walking the beautiful grounds and admiring these amazing works of art.
