The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will be hosting the special event, Holidays for Heroes on Dec. 7, 2017. Holidays for Heroes is open to all fire, police, EMS, military and Hoosier Helpers as a thank you for their service and dedication the community and country.

 

Holiday for Heroes, an appreciation event for our region's heroes, will be held on Dec 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is open to region heroes and their families. Light refreshments will be served and photos with Santa will be free to participants.

A special preview performance of A Christmas Story, The Musical, will be performed by the Memorial Opera House from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every 40 minutes.

 

Stations for writing letters to Santa or color a picture to military troops overseas will be available. Attendees will also be able to decorate kids' holiday crafts for $1 or cookies for $2.

 

To participate in the Holiday for Heroes event, please bring your police, fire, EMS, military or Hoosier Helper ID to the Indiana Welcome Center, which is located at the intersection of I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South in Hammond.

 

The A Christmas Story Comes Home exhibit, which is presented in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will run through Dec. 31, 2016. The exhibit features six animatronic scenes from the holiday film, A Christmas Story. A bronze statue of Flick, with his tongue permanently "stuck" to a flagpole can also be viewed outside of the Indiana Welcome Center.
