Posted on:Renewing the Region artist, Jeff Fink, will perform a live demo on July 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. outside the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. Fink has been designing and creating artworks for decades using scrap metals and other refuse. Fink will design custom artworks from large steel pieces at the demonstration.
Fink is a featured artist in the annual Renewing the Region exhibit at the Indiana Welcome Center. The exhibit features art from recycled and repurposed objects and will be on display through August 20 in the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall.
Renewing the Region is the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority's longest-running exhibit, and was first featured at the Indiana Welcome Center in 2001 as "Trash to Treasure." In 2011, the exhibit transitioned to highlight fashionable items made from recycled materials in "Trashion." The exhibit returned in 2014 with pieces of art and furniture.
Visitors will see a diverse display of art as well as restored, refurbished and renewed pieces. The exhibit encourages visitors to look at things in a new way while inspiring artistic conservation.
The Indiana Welcome Center is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. For more information on Renewing the Region, contact the Indiana Welcome Center at 219-989-7979 or visit alongthesouthshore.com.
