Nearly $17K Raised for Veterans Causes

The Veterans Day event, "A Lifetime of Showbiz" featuring W.F. "Bill" Wellman raised a total of $16,875.11 for veterans causes. The American Legion Post 94 in Valparaiso received $8,437.55 earlier this month. The remaining total: $8,437.56 will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana and the Veterans Action Council for a veteran's home build.

The Hammond home is being remodeled by a number of organizations and individuals including the Hammond Area Career Center. The Marine veteran, Ron Kimbrough will purchase the home on the 6600 block of Tennessee Avenue for the cost of remodeling. The home was originally donated by the north Township Trustee Frank Mrvan.

"A Lifetime of Showbiz" was a Veterans Day event honoring the region's men and women who serve our country that highlighted the life of local veteran and author, W.F. "Bill" Wellman. Hundreds of attendees enjoyed an evening of entertainment that included special guests: Congressman Pete Visclosky, the Marine Corp Color Guard, Valparaiso High School Band and Jim Cornelison from the Chicago Blackhawks.

"A Lifetime of Showbiz" will air on Lakeshore Public television on March 30 at 6:30 p.m. Tune into WYIN on Channel 56 (broadcast) to relive the evening of entertainment, honoring our veterans.
