South Shore Line Posters Exhibit: A Retrospective of Original Paintings

Hammond, Ind. (May 18, 2017) - The South Shore Line Poster Exhibit: A Retrospective of Original Paintings will be on display from May 20 to June 18 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond, Ind. The 50 original paintings are a part of the Millennium series campaign commenced 20 years ago.

South Shore Line Posters were originally developed from 1925-1929 to promote tourism and economic development in Northwest Indiana. The Millennium series posters were commenced in the 1990s and include more than 100 posters depicting attractions, events and locations throughout the South Shore Region.

Fifty of the original paintings of the Millennium series painting by artists, Mitch Markovitz, Barb LabusAlan Larkin, Bruce Cegur, Susan Holton, Fred Semmler, Neil Kienitz and John Rush will be displayed in the 6,500 square-foot exhibition hall.

The exhibit, 20th Anniversary of "Just Around the Corner" showcases the many attractions, industries and strengths in the communities along the South Shore Train Line.

An Opening Reception will be held on May 23 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Drive in Hammond, Ind. RSVPs are not necessary, the exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public.

South Shore Poster artist and illustrator Mitch Markovitz will host a Gallery Talk on June 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center. Markovitz will also be available to sign posters. The Gallery Talk is also free and open to the public.
