Impact On Our Community

As a conveniently-located and reasonably-priced destination, the South Shore CVA can market the convention center/multi-use facility to groups like Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, Indiana CPA Society and to trade shows like Berkeley Marine. Hundreds of thousands of visitors will descend on northwest Indiana from these groups - spending money throughout our region - filling their tanks at our gas stations, staying in our hotels, eating at our restaurants, and visiting our attractions.

Lake County residents save nearly $1,000 on their total taxes (including federal, state and local savings) because of tourism.

One weekend in March 2016, four events brought more than 6,100 visitors to the South Shore: Lutheran Basketball in Valparaiso, Scholastic Chess in Hammond, Illinois YMCA Swim in St. John and the Hoosier Volleyball Challenge in Hobart. These participants and spectators brought more than $747,500 to the region in one weekend. Imagine the impact of a convention center that could host large groups and meetings 365 days a year.
