The first 200 families to visit will receive a goodie bag filled with special treats and savings from participating organizations. A number of interactive booths featuring giveaways, games and prizes, live entertainment and free train rides for children will be available.
Explore the South Shore will also feature a book signing and storytelling with Jeff Manes, author of “All Worth Their Salt.” The collection of Northwest Indiana interviews tells a story of immigrants, steel mill workers, veterans and ordinary folk.
Mitch Markovitz, South Shore Poster artist, will also be on-hand to sign South Shore Posters purchased from the Indiana Welcome Center gift shop. No additional fees apply for autographs. Markovitz will sign posters from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In addition to activities, entertainment and games, Explore the South Shore will provide information on a number of family-fun events along the South Shore coming your way in 2016.

Humane Society Calumet Area - Stop by for coloring sheets and love from adoptable pets.
Indiana Ballet Theatre - Toss rings over pointe shoes.
Lake County Fair - Visit with a live bunny.
Lake County Parks with Bellaboos and Deep River Waterpark - Meet the mascots and create a Mother's Day keepsake to take home to bake.
Newton County - Try the tractor pedal bike pull.
Party Lane - Watch them make balloon animals and meet Captain America.
