Featuring more than 30 works by members of the Lubeznik Center Area Artists Association, Seeing the Light invites contemplation of the title theme of light. Diverse and de-"light"-ful interpretations include works of photography, painting, sculpture and mixed media.

Dueling pianos is sweeping the nation as the latest and greatest form of high-caliber entertainment. Two highly skilled pianist/vocalists "dueling it out" performing hits by a wide variety of diverse artists such as: Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Billy Joel, Santana, The Beatles, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Queen, Journey, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Buffett, Garth Brooks and countless more!

Margaret Wharton is a Chicago-based artist who received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1975. She was a founding member of Artemisia Gallery, a cooperative for women artists, in 1972. In addition to the Evanston Art Center, she has had solo exhibits at the Jean Albano Gallery in Chicago, where she has been represented since the mid-1990s, at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California, the Rockford College Art Gallery in Rockford, Illinois, Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, the Zolla-Lieberman Gallery in Chicago, the Phyllis Kind Gallery, Chicago and New York, and the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina.

Ms. Wharton was the subject of a one-woman show at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art curated by Mary Jane Jacob in 1981, which subsequently traveled to the Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, Texas, and the University of South Florida Art Galleries in Tampa. Nearly 30 years after that exhibit, Ms. Jacob will write the essay for the South Shore Arts exhibit catalogue. Commenting on the artist's work in 1981, she wrote, "In her process of disassembly and reconstruction, as in an assemblage technique, Wharton alters a found object with a previous life and brings it into an art context. But unlike most assemblage constructions, Wharton's art is not the joining together of disparate elements, but the restructuring of parts form a single source.

"Wharton's sculptures carry with them the history of their past life . . . [she] retains not only the memory of the previous specific existence, but also infuses a sense of past reaching beyond the life of the particular object."

As Sue Taylor wrote in Art in America about Wharton's 1995 exhibit at the Evanston Art Center, "Margaret Wharton's work focuses on the manipulation of objects such as chairs or books and their subsequent transformation into witty and critical works of art. Recent sculptures configured from chairs have an anthropomorphic quality. While objects/figures are suggested in the final works of art, the original object from which the piece was created is always apparent in an often-ironic way. Precise craftsmanship and attention to detail continues to be integral to her artistic process.

Examples of Wharton's work are included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Dallas Museum, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and the Milwaukee Art Museum in Wisconsin, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Seattle Art Museum and the Whitney Museum in New York.
