Every 4th Friday, March-November, rain or shine, the historic downtown district businesses turn into art galleries during the art walk and sale. November’s event features The Polar Express' theme-fun for all kids. Story reading, silver bell crafts and much more.

Visit the site of John Dillinger's famouse escape from the former Lake County Jail in Crown Point, Indiana. Parts of the Universal Studios film, "Public Enemies" was also filmed here.

Take the family for a nice outing at the Historical Museum.

May and June feature "Indiana through the Mapmaker's eye" including a Lake Co. amp from the mid-1870's - showing how the county looked a few years after the Civil war, before the heavy industry in the northern part of the county. This is one of the earliest maps found in the county.

The end of June and through July the museum features, "One Shot: WWII photography of John A. Bushemi." Bushemi was a good-natured, talented photographer from Gary, Indiana who covered several of the island invasions during WWII in the Pacific. This traveling exhibit features reproductions of Bushemi's photographs "from a rifle's length vantage point." Bushemi died February 19, 1944, when shrapnel from Japanese knee-mortar shells hit and mortally wounded the photographer. As navy surgeons frantically attempted to save Bushemi's life, the photographer gave his epitaph, "Be sure to get those pictures back to the office."

Saturdays, 8 am-1pm, June through the second week of October (weather pending) visit the Crown Point Farmers' Market . Vendors sell everything from fresh produce, flowers, gourmet foods, candles, cheese and a variety of other products. Groove to the sounds of Art Handley & Friends. June 19 and 26 location is The Super Bowl (218 S. East Street), Inc. parking lot. Live cooking demonstrations will be featured throughout the season from celebrity cookbook authors and noted local chefs. Old Sheriff’s House and Jail will be open from 9am to 12pm on selected Farmers’ Market days.

The farmers market will be held in front of Whiting City Hall.

Those who want to come and shop are welcome to browse for free. The Highland Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide the community with an attractive venue to buy produce, plants, breads and handmade art pieces directly from those who produce it. The street market supports local farmers, gardeners, artists, and businesses while enriching the kinship within the community.

Schererville's 4th annual international farmers market will take place from 3pm to 8pm every Thursday through September 2nd and from 3pm to 7pm September 9th through October 14th. The market will be closed on June 24th.
