Through its Arts & Culture Committee, the Michigan City Mainstreet Association seeks to weave the arts into the fabric of Michigan City's Uptown Arts District. The association believes that the arts are a catalyst for public dialogue, and that shared cultural experiences contribute to a sense of place, communal identity and economic revitalization. The First Friday Art Walk is a multi-venue event promoted by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association which focuses on fostering the arts and the artist who create it. On the first Friday of every month from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., local, uptown businesses open their doors to the public and host artists and their work. These "pop-up" galleries showcase anything from paintings, to sculptures, to live performances, and many businesses provide free snacks and drinks, too. Each month, the number of participating businesses varies and so does the artwork, so be sure to come out each month and see what's new!
