The Lake County Solid Waste Management Districat and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore are teaming up to offer fun-filled days year round. Enjoy award-winning environmental education programs or hike through the unique ecosystems of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing available in January and February. Like all Lake County Solid Waste Management District activities, programs at the Douglas Center emphasize learning by doing, interaction, and utilize problem-solving skills. Here you can hike the Miller Woods Trail.

Open daily, 9 am- 5 pm Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Winter hours, 9 am - 4 pm Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays)
Miller Woods Trail opens daily at 7 am and closes 30 minutes past sunset. Park in the west or gravel parking lot if you plan to be on the trail before the Douglas Center opens or closes. The paved parking lot hours are the same as the Douglas Center.

1. Starting at Highways 80/94, go north on IN-51/Ripley Street for 1 mile
2. Turn left (west) on Melton Road/US-20, go 1 3/10 mile
3. Turn right (north) on Lake Street, go 6/10 mile
4. Turn right into parking lot (after first underpass)
