"The Biggest Loser" Race Series is coming to Crown Point, Indiana on Sunday, April 30th, as it hosts a Half Marathon, 5K, and a new "Motivational Mile." The half marathon will start at 8:00 a.m., the 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the "Motivational Mile" will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Lake County Fairgrounds. The annual ‘Chair’ish the Children reception will be hosted at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond on April 26. From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. visitors can view the decorated child-sized chairs and bid during the silent auction. All monies raised benefit the Prevent Child Abuse Lake County (PCALC). The “Mommy’s Little Piggy” mashed potato eating contest will feature plates mounded with mashed potatoes and contestants of different age groups showing how the piggies eat. Pierogi Fest Goes High Tech Offering New App

In an attempt to show that Pierogi Fest can master technology, or to demonstrate that it cannot, organizers of this year’s Pierogi Fest (Downtown Whiting- July 29-31st) have released its first ever App, which is downloadable from most sources including Apple. In addition, the festival will expand its clothesline wayfinding system using clothesline mounted signage. “With 275,000 attendees it’s just too loud to scream directions to everyone, so we figured that some attendees will use smart phones or their eyes to figure out how to get around,” noted Tom Dabertin, Chairman of Pierogi Fest. “The clothesline mounted signage worked quite well for everyone except Giants who complained that it was a bit low!”…More

Renewing the Region artist, Jeff Fink, will perform a live demo on July 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. outside the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. Fink will use blowtorches and other tools on more than 2,000 lbs. of scrap steel to make a custom artwork for the Indiana Welcome Center. Fink has been designing and creating artworks for decades using scrap metals and other refuse.…More

Felix “Flex” Maldonado was chosen as the artist to create Lake County’s bison for the State’s Bison-tennial project. Street artist, Felix Maldonado, the South Shore CVA and South Shore Arts will unveil the Lake County bison on Thursday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. The fiberglass bison is a part of the state’s Bison-tennial Public Art Project. Its permanent home will be at the Indiana Welcome Center.…More

Artist Camer1 from Oxygen Street Art Throwdown Transforms Downtown Building

The Tippecanoe Arts Federation, in collaboration with eMbers Venue, recently received funding through the National Endowment for the Arts to paint a “larger-than-life” mural on a downtown building. The mural, which depicts scenery and a bird is being painted by self-taught artist, Cameron “Camer1” Moberg. Camer1 comes from San Francisco and recently won Oxygen’s Street Art Throwdown (2015), a street art competition series.…More
