The Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point has already begun the transformation for the 164th Annual Lake County Fair. The Fair begins August 5 and continues to August 14. Pierogi Fest Goes High Tech Offering New App

In an attempt to show that Pierogi Fest can master technology, or to demonstrate that it cannot, organizers of this year’s Pierogi Fest (Downtown Whiting- July 29-31st) have released its first ever App, which is downloadable from most sources including Apple. In addition, the festival will expand its clothesline wayfinding system using clothesline mounted signage. “With 275,000 attendees it’s just too loud to scream directions to everyone, so we figured that some attendees will use smart phones or their eyes to figure out how to get around,” noted Tom Dabertin, Chairman of Pierogi Fest. “The clothesline mounted signage worked quite well for everyone except Giants who complained that it was a bit low!”…More

Fink will use blowtorches and other tools on more than 2,000 lbs. of scrap steel to make a custom artwork for the Indiana Welcome Center. Fink has been designing and creating artworks for decades using scrap metals and other refuse.…More

Lake County’s Bison Unveiling Scheduled for Thursday

Felix “Flex” Maldonado was chosen as the artist to create Lake County’s bison for the State’s Bison-tennial project. Street artist, Felix Maldonado, the South Shore CVA and South Shore Arts will unveil the Lake County bison on Thursday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. The fiberglass bison is a part of the state’s Bison-tennial Public Art Project. Its permanent home will be at the Indiana Welcome Center.…More

The Tippecanoe Arts Federation, in collaboration with eMbers Venue, recently received funding through the National Endowment for the Arts to paint a “larger-than-life” mural on a downtown building. The mural, which depicts scenery and a bird is being painted by self-taught artist, Cameron “Camer1” Moberg. Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay route through Lake County revealed

Lt. Governor Eric J. Holcomb, Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) executive director Mark Newman and the Lake County Torch Relay Committee today released the route that the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay will follow through Lake Countythis fall. The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay will be a 3,200 mile journey with nearly 2,000 torchbearers from each of Indiana’s 92 counties participating. The “Mommy’s Little Piggy” mashed potato eating contest will feature plates mounded with mashed potatoes and contestants of different age groups showing how the piggies eat.
