The city of Gary has partnered with the Fuller Center for Housing of Gary to begin the transformation of the iconic street of Michael Jackson’s birth home. The city of Gary’s “Jackson Street of Dreams” project will kick off with the rehabilitation of two homes and construction of two new homes on the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Jackson Street.
The projects will need volunteers from August 24 through August 29, and will conclude with a ceremonious presentation of keys to the new homeowners. Local residents and visitors can volunteer during the rehab and build projects by visiting www.fullercenter.org.
The Fuller Center for Housing of Gary is a nonprofit organization that operates as an affiliate, or Covenant Partner, with the national organization of The Fuller Center for Housing, headquartered in Americus, Georgia.
Following the organization’s mission, FCH Gary seeks to eradicate poverty housing by promoting partnerships with individuals and community groups to build and rehabilitate homes for people in need. The Jackson Street location is the first of many that has been identified for this revitalization project.
