Crown Point Things to Do
Filled with history and beautiful surroundings, Crown Point has an ample amount of things to keep the whole family entertained.
The Lake County Fairgrounds host a large variety of festivals and entertainment throughout the year. In August, the exciting Lake County Fair comes to the fairgrounds. The 10-day fair is filled with carnival rides, horse shows, delicious food, live entertainment, animals and agricultural exhibits.
Crown Point's charming downtown square is a hot spot for unique festivals and events. Celebrate the Fourth of July with Crown Point's hometown parade and fantastic fireworks show. The annual Corn Roast is the perfect way to enjoy the downtown area and eat delectable foods, including hot, buttered corn-on-the-cob. The lively St. Patrick's Day Celebration includes a nighttime parade with illuminated floats. During the summer months, the Crown Point Car Cruise, filled with classic cars, comes to the square every Thursday evening. On Saturdays, the Crown Point Farmers' Market fills the square with foods, crafts and music.
At the center of Crown Point's square sits the Old Lake County Courthouse. The historic courthouse boasts many interesting shops as well as the Lake County Historical Society Museum. The "Grand Old Lady," as it's known, was erected in 1878. It later became known as the "Marriage Mill" since Crown Point required no waiting period for marriage licenses. Many notable people, including Rudolph Valentino and Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali), were married there. The courthouse will soon be the new home to the John Dillinger Museum, which tells the story of the gangster's life while celebrating advancements in law enforcement.
Take a tour of the Old Sheriff's House and former Crown Point jail to learn cultural and historical information about the Crown Point area. This historic building also holds the infamous jail cell from which "Public Enemy #1," John Dillinger, escaped in 1934. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Crown Point with outdoor activities at local parks. Crown Point offers multiple beautiful and challenging golf courses, such as White Hawk Country Club and Oak Knoll Golf Club. Challenge a friend or family member to a game of disc golf on a championship course at Lemon Lake County Park. Play miniature golf, race go-karts or practice at the soccer and batting cages at the Crown Point Family Fun Center.
