Michigan City Things to Do

Michigan City, on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan, offers visitors a wide variety of interesting and exciting things to do, including arts and culture, shopping and outdoor activities.

Patrons of the arts will enjoy all that the Lubeznik Center for the Arts offers, including art galleries, exhibitions, art education and an annual art festival on the lakefront. Visitors can enjoy concerts and shows featuring nationally known entertainers at the Blue Chip Casino, or can watch productions at Dunes Summer Theatre or Footlight Players. The Uptown Center for the Performing Arts offers concerts featuring local and nationwide talent. Wine lovers can not only find fabulous regional wines at Shady Creek Winery, they can also enjoy live entertainment on Sundays.

Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets offer 120 outlet stores for the discriminating shopper, such as Calvin Klein, Bose, Le Creuset, DKNY, Michael Kors, Coach and Carter's. Michigan City also has a wide variety of locally owned and nationally known stores, as well as Marquette Mall and the Antique Market.

Outdoor activities abound with Michigan City's beaches, parks and trails. Washington Park and Zoo features a beautiful beach, charming lakefront park and a wonderful zoo. Fishing and boating enthusiasts will enjoy a trip with Captain Ed's Big Deck Charters or Hot Tomolly Luxury Yacht Charters. Bicyclists and hikers will appreciate the Calumet Bike Trail and the Heron Rookery Trail, both of which are excellent spots for birding and wildlife watching. Beach lovers will soak up the sun at Central Avenue Beach, part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

History buffs can learn about the region at the Barker Mansion, The Great Lake Museum of Military History and the Old Lighthouse Museum. Gardening enthusiasts can wander the International Friendship Gardens or find a variety of produce at one of the many local fruit farms and vegetable stands. Golfers will enjoy hitting the links at Michigan City Municipal Golf's North Course and South Course. Blue Chip Casino provides excellent gaming opportunities, a variety of delicious restaurants and year-round entertainment.

No matter what your interests are, Michigan City's large selection of things to do is sure to please.
