Arts & Culture
Art and culture enthusiasts have several options just around the bend from Chicago along the South Shore. South Shore Arts has open gallery space in Munster, Hammond and Crown Point and hosts regular exhibits from local, national and international artisans. Valparaiso University's Brauer Museum of Art is home to a nationally recognized collection of 19th, 20th, and 21st-century American art.
A leisurely stroll through one of the South Shore's many downtowns will uncover smaller art galleries and public art exhibits and community art projects. Many communities host monthly events featuring downtown shopping and local artisans.
The Chicago-style Equity Theater Company, housed in the Theatre at the Center in Munster regularly performs classics by Rodgers & Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Additional theaters include the Towle Community Theater in Hammond and the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso.
