Winter Activities
Winter along the South Shore brings rosy cheeks, fluffy snow and lots of outdoor fun. Sledding is a favorite winter activity for South Shore residents and there are lots of places to choose from.
The South Shore is also home to a number of ice skating rinks, or if you're a fan of quiet, snow covered grounds and a great exercise activity, cross-country skiing might be right up your alley. You can also take a horse-drawn sleigh ride at Buckley Homestead in Lowell Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 1-3pm, weather permitting.

This holiday season, The Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond will feature 6 animated displays featuring scenes from "A Christmas Story". The displays include: Higbee’s Department Store Window, Flick’s Tongue and the Triple Dog Dare, It’s a Major Award, Santa’s Mountain at Higbee’s, the Bumpus Hounds, and the Parker Living Room.
