Astronomers have been observing the skies above the Earth with telescopes for just over 400 years, beginning with Galileo's observations of the Moon, Jupiter's moons and Saturn with his handmade optics. From Galileo's sketches to images from the Hubble, Chandra and Spitzer space telescopes, this special program by Purdue University Calumet Professor Shawn Slavin will shed light on the challenges of obtaining and interpreting images of space. Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University Calumet, in Hammond, Shawn Slavin holds a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Indiana University. He has been teaching at Purdue Calumet for ten years, and resides with his family in Valparaiso, IN.

Patti Vasquez, a Chicago native, has appeared in HBO's Las Vegas Comedy Festival, the Chicago Comedy Festival and Marshall's Women in Comedy Festival in New York. She has co-written a sitcom pilot entitled "The New Normal" based on her life experiences in a multi-generational, multi-racial, underemployed, special needs family. Patti is busy writing her first book "ZIP IT! - Just Because You Can Talk Doesn't Mean You Should!"

Satellite imagery of earth reveals the swirling arms of a massive hurricane, triangular shadows cast by the Great Pyramids, and the grid-like pattern of Kansas farmland in this exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution. Dramatic large-scale images are complimented by a digital video globe display and an OnCell audio tour. Earth from Space was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
