Hammond, Indiana

Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr.
Hammond was the first industrialized city of Lake County. Although the city is experiencing a rebirth of commercial development, there is still a large and extensive historic district present downtown. The Little Red School House, displayed in Hessville Park, holds a piece of city's history and is open for tours.
The city is blessed with nature parks such as Lost Marsh Environmental Recreation Area. The newly opened Lost Marsh includes a 330-acre championship golf course, a youth golf academy and a nature preserve. Wolf Lake, nationally famous for windsurfing, provides lakefront pleasures. The Hammond Marina is home to the dockside gaming and dining at the Horseshoe Casino Boat.
