Winners Announced For Cookie Crumble
Hammond – The Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the winners of the Inaugural Cookie Crumble.
Overall cookie – Patti Komara, Dyer – Mint Layer Brownies
Bar Category – Patti Komara, Dyer – Mint Layer Brownies
Ethnic Category – Christine Lieberman, Crown Point - Kolaches
Decorated Category – Amanda Straker, Hammond – Mandy’s Melt-in-your-Mouth’s
Chocolate Category – Jane Fisher, Highland – Chocolate-dipped sandwich Macaroons
Fruit & Nut – Starla Peak, Hammond – Pecans in Paradise
Professional – Amelia’s Bake Shoppe, Cedar Lake – Apricot Ruskies
Each winner in the amateur categories received a $100 gift certificate to Strack & VanTil and Ultra Food stores. The overall winner received $250 of gift certificates and a gift basket. The winner in the professional category received a trophy by Shore Magazine. All 7 winners also received a Cookie Crumble “Winner” apron.
The judge’s panel was representative of the sponsors: Barbara Rolek and Judy Milne represented The Times, Lisa Weber from Shore Magazine, Ijunia Vallaincourt of Strack & VanTil, and Ric Federighi represented WYIN am1420. Judges were evaluating each cookie or bar according to taste, appearance, and texture.
The 2nd Annual Cookie Crumble was a challenge for the best cookie recipe in the region held at the Indiana Welcome Center at I-80/94 & Kennedy Avenue south. Through this contest, the Lake County CVB raised $457 for the Northwest Indiana Food Bank.
