Exhibit items can include a diverse display of art, such as blacksmithing, china painting and antique pieces, as well as restored, refurbished and renewed pieces. Previously featured items also include wearables, sustainably made candles and more.
"The annual exhibit really pushes the idea of conservation and recycling," explained Batistatos. "Local artists have showcased how old, ordinary items can be restored and revitalized by transforming them into something new and loved."
The exhibit was first featured at the Indiana Welcome Center in 2001 as "Trash to Treasure." In 2011, the exhibit transitioned to highlight fashionable items made from recycled materials in "Trashion." Beginning in 2014, the exhibit became "Renewing the Region," showcasing a diverse array of items that have been upcycled and restored.
