Events include theater performances, soul food tasting, book signing, and more

HammondJanuary 30, 2006 – The Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host 8 days of Black History Month celebrations at the Indiana Welcome Center located at I-80/94 & Kennedy Avenue. The celebration will include a soul food dinner and tasting, theater performances, a book signing, performances by an R&B group, Bid Whist card game tournament, and “Who am I” collage contest with 102 noted African Americans.

Theater performances, by the Morning Bishop Theatre, include; “Langston Hughes Was Here” an interactive theater experience for children, written and directed by McKenya Dilworth; “Gary: 100 Years of Melting into Greatness” a musical paying tribute to Gary’s centennial celebration; and “Redemption” a gospel musical about turning one’s life around. The R&B group Xclusive will perform during the evening shows of the Gary tribute. David Johnson, author of “The Sirens Never Stop” will also be signing his book and speaking about his 20 years of experience saving lives as a paramedic.

10:00am – 4:00pm (local gospel talents will perform)
