Hammond - The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority and the Northwest Indiana Forum will host a live broadcast of the IOC's (International Olympic Committee) decision on the 2016 Olympic Games. The event at the Welcome Center will begin at 9am and the announcement will be delivered by IOC President, Jacques Rogge at approximately 11:30am (CST). Chicago, IL is among 3 other candidate cities (Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo) to receive the nod to host the Olympic Games in 2016.

The SSCVA and the NWI Forum will host the event at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Drive, in Hammond on Friday, October 2nd. A light breakfast will be served and after the vote is announced, there will be an open forum for questions and remarks.

Speros Batistatos, President/CEO, SSCVA, said, "The 2016 Olympics will offer an unprecedented opportunity for Northwest Indiana to focus on cohesively developing our hospitality industry and transportation infrastructure. The CVA has been working with Chicago 2016 since 2008, securing thousands of hotel rooms for the Olympic ‘family' [media, workers, security and sponsors]. The win would be monumental to the South Shore."

"The Olympics mean commerce and economic development for Northwest Indiana and the unique opportunity to showcase the best parts - our humanity and hospitality. We will highlight our region's innovation and industrial strength and environmental beauty. The Olympics will provide Northwest Indiana opportunities to grow as a global community and think freshly about the type of development we want to offer the world," stated Vince Galbiati, President/CEO of the NWI Forum.
