Joseph Svetanoff, of Crown Point, has been selected to serve as Secretary to the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The Indiana Gaming Commission's mission is to license and regulate riverboat gambling in Indiana and to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations in a manner that promotes the integrity of gaming and the best interest of the State of Indiana and its citizens.

"I'm proud to serve the people of the State of Indiana as a member of the commission and in the capacity as the secretary," Svetanoff said. Svetanoff was appointed to the commission by Republican Governor Mike Pence in February 2014.

Svetanoff, an attorney with the Harris Law Firm, currently serves as a criminal public defender with Lake County Superior Court, County Division, Room I and previously with the Town of Merrillville Criminal Court. He earned his undergraduate degree from Butler University and his law degree from Valparaiso University.
