LCCVB Nominates for Indiana Tourism Milestone Awards

Teibel’s and Phil Smidt’s have been serving Lake County for decades

HammondMarch 1, 2006 – Teibel’s Family Restaurant and Phil Smidt’s have been nominated for the Indiana Tourism Milestone Awards given during the annual Hoosier Hospitality Conference on March 21st in Indianapolis. The Milestone Awards, presented by Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, recognize hospitality and tourism businesses that have exceeded 75 years of continuous service. Teibel’s and Phil Smidt’s have been serving Lake County for 77 and 96 years respectively.

Teibel’s Family Restaurant began, in its present day location on the corner of US 41 and US 30, as a 12-seat highway diner famous for fried chicken and lake perch. This restaurant has grown into a popular family restaurant and banquet facility. Phil Smidt’s, established in 1910, located on Calumet Avenue in Hammond is famous for their frog legs and has been celebrated for almost a century.

Steve Teibel, owner of Teibel’s Family Restaurant said, “We are very honored to be nominated for such an award. Our family has taken pride in serving the community, and we will continue to do so; we have just welcomed our 4th generation into the family business.”
