Region Idol Age to Be More Inclusive
Crown Point – March 29, 2006 – The 2nd Annual Region Idol competition, starting April 7th, has been changed from the 21 + age requirement to 18 years and up. The contest returns after its popular first year at The Hall of Justice located at 220 South Main Street in Crown Point and will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Indiana Chapter and the Youth Outreach Program of the Northern Indiana Arts Association.
“The organizing committee wanted to include more of the exceptional talent of young people from throughout the South Shore region,” said Speros A. Batistatos, Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau President/CEO, and organization committee member.
The singers will compete before a panel of judges in order to win cash and prizes and to be named the “2006 Region Idol”. The 2-day auditions take place Friday, April 7th and Thursday, April 13th from 7pm to 12am and the competition will be held every Friday through May 26th. This year’s “theme” nights, where competitors choose songs from different eras and categories, will include Motown, Disco, Hoosier artists, Beatles, Rat Pack, and Rock & Roll. The contestants are encouraged to dress the part and use props that may add to the performance.
