The Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza of Merrillville, IN has announced plans to start a complete renovation in excess of $10 million to the entire hotel complex including all guestrooms, public spaces and one of the hotel’s restaurants. The transformation starts next month with plans to upgrade the entire look of the only full service hotel in the local area with modern enhancements that will deliver exceptional service and quality to all guests. Located central to the Midwest states and just 40 minutes from downtown Chicago, the Radisson Hotel can be found at the intersection of US 30 and I-65, managed by White Lodging.

“The Radisson is undergoing an extensive transformation this year, creating a hotel focused on greater product quality, consistency of service and enhancing the individual guest experience,” stated Lead General Manager Richard Smith. “We’re positive our customers will be overwhelmed by the fresh new image. The renovation will continue to enhance our goal in maintaining our position as the number one choice for meetings, conventions, overnight accommodations as well as offering a great night out with dining and entertainment options in our region.”

Warm and inviting décor showcasing Indiana’s landscape colors and all the natural elements of the beauty found within the State of Indiana will be featured throughout the lobby and atrium with birch trees lining the area. A new reception lobby will be created to welcome all guests and allow closer interaction and more personalized services. A separate “welcome hub” will be created off the Starbucks lobby for group check-ins as well as an area that one can sit and relax. The hotel’s Khaki Bar will be converted into the Atrium Bar and Lounge, a sleek and sophisticated lounge offering a great selection of beers, spirits, wines and light menu. Guests can also take the opportunity to use one of the semi-private cabanas found throughout the atrium area. Each cabana will feature a flat screen tv, comfortable sofa and wireless internet capability, a perfect getaway for families and their children enjoying the pool area or even for pre-dinner drinks and a place for social gathering.

The fresh experience leading to guestrooms will start in the guest corridors and elevators with new carpeting, ceilings and enhanced lighting. All of the 347 guestrooms and suites will receive a complete makeover from floor to ceiling with new carpets, wall coverings and draperies. An additional array of luxurious amenities include Sleep Number Beds with new custom bedding, new furniture and fixtures, refrigerators, flat screen televisions and upgraded bathrooms with granite countertops. All double bedrooms will be converted to double queen size beds, with the rest featuring king beds.

One of the first phases of the renovation to be completed is transforming the Garden Restaurant to the Star Café, a new exciting concept celebrating the rich heritage of the Star Plaza Theatre, connected to the hotel complex. A collection of photographs and memorabilia from performers who have graced the stage at the theatre will adorn the walls and entrance area. The restaurant will offer and extensive breakfast buffet daily as well as hosting an alternative buffet meal every Friday and Saturday evening as well as welcoming Star Plaza Theatre patrons.
