‘Save Indiana Summers' Petition of Support Available

at the Indiana Welcome Center

Petition can also be filled out online

Hammond - Save Indiana Summers, the not-for profit coalition for a uniform school start date, has provided the Indiana Welcome Center with postcards to fill out and send, to Indianapolis. The group is in support of a start date no earlier than the 4th Monday in August for the state of Indiana. Save Indiana Summers states there is no educational benefit to early-August school start dates, financial savings because of the skyrocketing energy costs and the change can allow teachers to advance their degree and obtain additional certification, among other reasons.

Supporters of Save Indiana Summers can also fill out a petition online at http://www.saveindianasummers.org/. More information about the group, the issues and the legislative efforts can also be found on this site.

The South Shore CVA's Board of Directors recently passed a resolution supporting a uniform school opening date; citing many hospitality related businesses in Indiana depend on summer travel for revenue generation.
