Winners Announced For Cookie Crumble


HammondDecember 8, 2005 – The Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the winners of the Inaugural Cookie Crumble.

Overall cookie – Janet Walker – (Bar Category) Chocolate Caramel Bars

Bar Category – Linda Sadlak – Apricot Meringue Bars

Ethnic Category – Rosalee Spudich – Ice Cream Crescents

Decorated Category -Lisa Kovacs – Christmas Buttercrisp Cookies

Chocolate Category – Melissa Kolesiak – Three Chocolate Fudge

Fruit & Nut – Barb Pakan - Keflee

Professional – Karl Wolak (Off the Vine) – Peppermint Ganache Jems

Each winner in the amateur categories received a $100 gift certificate to Strack & VanTil. The overall winner received a one night stay in a Whirlpool Suite at the Ramada Inn in Hammond, and the Professional Category winner was presented with a trophy by Shore Magazine.

            The judge’s panel was representative of the sponsors: Judy Milne represented the Post-Tribune, Lisa Weber from Shore Magazine, Ijunia Vallaincourt of Strack & VanTil, and Ric Federighi represented 1230 WJOB. Judges were evaluating each cookie or bar according to taste, appearance, and texture.

            The Inaugural Cookie Crumble was the first ever challenge for the best cookie recipe in the region held at the Indiana Welcome Center at I-80/94 & Kennedy Avenue south. Through this contest, the Lake County CVB raised $435 for the Northwest Indiana Food Bank.

            The mission of the LCCVB as the official destination marketing organization, leads and supports the visitor industry through the marketing and development of the county from convention, sports, gaming and special interest travel segments, thereby increasing economic impact, creating employment and enhancing the communities’ quality of life.
