Keep South Shore Safe

Masks are required on public transportation, and in LaPorte Lake Counties as well as on national park and state government properties, both inside buildings and in outdoor spaces where you cannot socially distance. Most businesses still require masks and we suggest calling ahead or checking online for details regarding each business’s policy.

Almost Heaven - John Denver’s America at Theatre at the Center

Already a John Denver fan, I was eager to see this production of Almost Heaven – John Denver’s America at Theatre at the Center in Munster (now through March 12, 2020). I wasn’t sure how this would be organized; I only knew there would be a lot of familiar folk music. That was enough to drag my fiancé to Theatre at the Center with me for a matinee showing. Folk lover or not, you will be a fan of John Denver by the end of the show and be singing “Country Roads” or “Rocky Mountain High” for multiple days after…

The Pajama Game at Theatre at the Center

Work life gets a little tense when the workers at Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory demand a raise of 7 ½ cents in this musical set in 1954! Especially when things between the new superintendent and the head of the union grievance committee get steamy. The award winning musical had everything from love interests, real life work situations, comedy, and lots of “symbolism” as the comedic character and narrator, Hines, says throughout. From the enthusiastic dance moves during the “Once-A-Year Day” number, to the deep and sultry sounds of Curtis Bannisters voice in “Hey There,” this musical truly had me on the edge of my seat…

An Amazing Public Art Walk in Rensselaer, Indiana

I’d venture to guess most people have not explored the small town of Rensselaer, Indiana just off of I-65. I was one of those people, until the RenArtWlk. I’m a fan of exploring and of art in general, and I wanted to see what all the buzz was about and I am so happy I did. The new art installations in Rensselaer, also known as the #RenArtWlk, is more than worth the trip to the small town about 45 minutes south of Merrillville, Indiana and under two hours north of Indianapolis…
