Lowell Memorial Cemetery, Lowell
Lowell Memorial Cemetery is located at 1341 E. Commercial Ave. in Lowell, IN. The oldest section of the cemetery is located closest to Commercial Avenue, up on the hill, and contains the graves of dozens of South Shore Civil War veterans.
The Calumet Region Civil War Preservation Project replaced the old, worn or broken headstones of nine Civil War veterans at this south Lake County cemetery in 2011.
Most – if not all – of the Civil War servicemen buried here also are listed on the Three Creeks Monument (photo below), a 25-foot-high granite memorial located near downtown Lowell, just a short drive from the cemetery heading west on Commercial Avenue.
