The most recognized and loved piece of the 21st century, Orff’s masterwork is based on a collections of medieval poems that examine the universal themes of the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of the return of Spring, and the pleasures and perils of love and celebration. Stravinsky’s Firebird tells the tale of an evil wizard, enchanted princesses, a handsome prince, and the magical bird.
