Join the NW Indiana Paddling Association in partnership with Save the Dunes, Shirley Heinze Land Trust, Dunes Learning Center, and the Indiana Dunes National Park for a celebration of the opening of the East Branch of the Little Calumet River. Besides opening the river up, several new access point and habit restoration improvements have taken place thanks to funding from the Chi Cal Rivers Fund in combination with match from NIPSCO and partners. Paddlers will put in at the Shirley Heinze Land Trust Walter Nature Preserve located at Taylor Street in Chesterton. They will take out at the Howe Road access site in the Indiana Dunes National Park. A new fully accessible kayak launch is planned to be installed at Howe Road during the spring of 2019. For most paddlers, it takes around 2 - 2.5 hrs. Shuttles and loaner boats will be available. Further details TBA. Please join the NW Indiana Paddling Association at www.NWIPA.org to get the earliest details including sign ups for loaner boats.
