Join staff and volunteers at Indiana Dunes National Park as we celebrate "Holiday Traditions in the Dunes." Programs will take place on Saturday, December 8, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Dunes Learning Center and from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Chellberg Farm. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the region's cultural history while enjoying a fun-filled day with family and friends.

The Dunes Learning Center will celebrate the season with Swedish pancakes and lingonberry syrup, as well as traditional pancakes and maple syrup from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. Enjoy folk music and seasonal Swedish fun, including the Santa Lucia tradition. Local author and historian Ken Schoon will speak at 12:00 pm about his new book, Swedish Settlements on the South Shore of Lake Michigan. The cost of the breakfast is $9.95 for adults and $7.95 for kids 3-12. Please pre-register using the following link:

A traditional Swedish Christmas will be presented at the national park's Chellberg Farm from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. In the farmhouse, volunteers in traditional dress will explain the Swedish holiday customs as well as decorations on display and present Santa Lucia and her story while Jul Tomte (Santa) listens to children's wishes in the parlor. Then meet Papa and learn how the Santa Lucia legend is celebrated in many Swedish households. Finish your tour in the kitchen where various Swedish foods of the holiday season will be displayed and a traditional holiday cookie will be given to each visitor.
