This months walking tour will explore the history of the Gilded Age through the lens of Michigan City. Learn about the history of America's industrial revolution through its effects on Michigan City. Explore the influence of Chicago's society culture on Michigan City's socialites. See how the major trends and changes of the time period molded Michigan City into the vibrant community it is today. Guests will discover the climactic effects the 1894 Pullman Strike had on Michigan City, the history of Washington Park, and the 1915 Eastland Disaster among other key events in the City's history.
The tour leaves the Barker Mansion at 10:30 am and covers approximately 1.5 miles. In the event of rain, a special mansion tour will be offered in place of the walking tour. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased on Eventbrite or by calling the Barker Mansion at 219-873-1520.
