A documentary film about America’s last interurban, The South Shore Line, tells the history and significance of the Northern Indiana’s only commuter rail line. Viewers will learn about the line’s beginnings in the early 1900s, its near demise then resuscitation by industrial magnate Samuel Insull, the struggles though the Great Depression, World War II and a changing transportation landscape, to finally being controlled though the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District as public entity that serves 4 million rides a year.
