About the Exhibit
Visit the Calumet Voices, National Stories exhibition and discover the Calumet region’s hidden gems and spectacular sites. Join local museums from across the region as they come together to share a vibrant collection of voices and stories that have shaped the American experience.
The exhibit was developed by the Field Museum in collaboration with the Calumet Heritage Area and is presented by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority. This new installment of the dynamic Calumet Voices, National Stories exhibition series showcases Calumet’s natural environment, industrial might, and cultural richness – and how they combine to create this unique landscape.
Immerse yourself in compelling displays, delve into digital media, and dig into layers of the landscape through maps and tours! Explore the unique relationship between the natural world, unparalleled innovation, and cultural expression that makes this region a national treasure. Experience the daily life of an industrial worker and how their passion has shaped the region. See neighborhoods and nature through the eyes of renowned artists, and learn about the region’s natural areas through specimens like puccoon plants and red-headed woodpeckers on display.
Earlier versions of Calumet Voices, National Stories have been displayed at the Pullman National Historical Park, the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, the Porter County Museum, and the Field Museum. You can visit those previous venues here.
