The county seat, Crown Point, was incorporated in 1868. The city is known for its history including the first Cobe Cup (preceded the Indianapolis 500) won by Louis Chevrolet in 1908.
Because Crown Point had no "waiting time" for marriage licenses, the historic Crown Point Courthouse in the center wed such notables as Rudolph Valentino, Ronald Reagan and Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali). In 1934, Crown Point forever etched its name into history with the notorious escape of public enemy #1, John Dillinger.
Stop by the historic downtown square and try one of the many "tastes of The Region," or visit one of the many specialty shops or museums located along Crown Point's Main Street.
Enjoy the special events throughout the year including the Corn Roast and Taste of the Region in June, Octoberfest in the fall, or the Farmer's Markets every Saturday on the Square from May through October.
