Crown Point, Indiana

Incorporated in 1868, Crown Point is the county seat of Lake County. This beautiful city not only has a wealth of fascinating history, it also has an abundance of dining, entertainment, and recreational options.

Crown Point features a large variety of distinctive restaurants.  Lucrezia Ristorante, located in the historic Brown Mansion, specializes in fresh and innovative Northern Italian fare. Crown Brewing, featured on the South Shore Brewery Trail, serves up award-winning craft beer. For a quick and delicious hot dog or sausage, stop by The Hot Dog Guy's cart on the southeast corner of the square (the streets surrounding the Old Lake County Courthouse).

The square offers many unique shops like The Copper Butterfly and Barbara Jean’s Gifts & Gourmet. The historic courthouse boasts many interesting shops as well as the Lake County Historical Society Museum. The "Grand Old Lady," as it's known, was erected in 1878. It became known as the "Marriage Mill" since Crown Point required no waiting period for marriage licenses. Many notable people, including Rudolph Valentino and Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali) were married there.

In addition to the Old Lake County Courthouse, visitors can also enjoy learning about Crown Point's history at the Old Sheriff’s House Foundation, home of the infamous jail from which "Public Enemy #1," John Dillinger, escaped in 1934.

History isn't the only fascinating aspect of Crown Point. The city also is home to the Lake County Fairgrounds, where the exciting Lake County Fair is held each August. The fairgrounds hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Covered Bridge Harvest Fest. Downtown Crown Point also hosts many fun-filled festivals and events. Visitors can enjoy the Fourth of July parade and fireworks, the annual Corn Roast and the Taste of Crown Point. During the summer months, a weekly car cruise and the Crown Point Farmer's Market are favorites.

Visitors can take part in many outdoor activities, such as golfing at the White Hawk Country Club or the Oak Knoll Golf Club, disc golfing at the championship course in Lemon Lake County Park or miniature golfing at the Crown Point Family Fun Center.

Crown Point has a vast array of restaurants, shops, activities and history. Visitors will not be disappointed with the variety that Crown Point has to offer.
