The South Shore is filled with family-friendly attractions like Deep River Waterpark and Fair Oaks Farms. History buffs can choose from an array of historical sites, museums and memorials. Visitors can learn about the history of flight at Marquette Park in Gary, the ice-cutting industry in Cedar Lake and the railroads in Griffith. Many communities along the South Shore also feature agritourism opportunities including wineries, dairies, U-pick orchards, pumpkin patches, corn mazes and farmer's markets.
