Griffith, Indiana

Founded in 1904, the Town of Griffith is "The Town that Came to the Tracks."  During the 70's the town served as an interchange for five railroads, with nearly 180 trains passing through daily. Visitors can view a historical model railroad train displayed at the Depot Museum. Griffith also celebrates its history by holding an annual "Rock n' Rail" fest that lines Broad Street with music, food and activities.

Griffith also boasts the Hoosier Prairie Nature Preserve which is ideal for bird watching and nature trails. The area was designated a State Nature Preserve in 1977. Its sandy soil creates a variety of habitats, including oak barrens, wet prairie, sedge meadows and prairie marshes. More than 350 native species of vascular plants have been identified in the area. 43 of these species are uncommon in the State of Indiana.

Located in the town's hub, Central Park hosts events all summer long, including Art in the Park and several Movie in the Park nights.

If you are more of a thrill seeker enjoy an air ride to view Chicago's skyline from above at the Griffith-Merrillville Airport.
