Grand Kankakee Marsh
Hebron, IN 46341
Phone: (219) 663-8170
Visitors will enjoy hunting, fishing and birding at the Grand Kankakee Marsh. The surrounding trails are also a prime spot for riding horses. Launch your canoe or kayak at the public access area to paddle your way down the historic Kankakee River. Please note that activities and public access to trails are closed during hunting season.
Located along the historic Kankakee River, the park is dynamically affected by seasonal flooding. This, along with different natural communities, provides ideal feeding in the fields for a variety of wildlife. Densely wooded areas and the remnants of old river channels at this 1,952-acre park provide excellent habitat for a large deer herd, many species of ducks, and other wildlife. Preservation of these natural habitats is one of the primary goals of the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department.
Learn about some of the history and restoration of the Grand Kankakee Marsh in this trailer from the "Everglades of the North: The Story of the Grand Kankakee Marsh" documentary.
