The Ultimate Guys Getaway
Ready for the ultimate guys' getaway? Trails, golf courses, casinos, charter fishing, breweries, distilleries and so much more - the South Shore of Lake Michigan in Indiana is where it’s at!
The Great Outdoors
Indiana Dunes
Embark on a one-of-a-kind adventure exploring the most diverse landscapes in the Midwest at Indiana Dunes National Park and State Park. Hike the towering dunes and through forests, cycle miles of trails, paddle or jet-ski on our open waters, or camp under the stars. Outdoor activities are available year-round, from playing sand volleyball on the beaches in the summer to cross-country skiing in the winter.
Fishing
Whether you're looking for a quick trip or an all-day fishing excursion, the region has some amazing places to cast your reel. Catch Lake Michigan salmon, steelhead, brown and lake trout with one of the local fishing charters. Or head out on your own on a boat or fish from a pier or shoreline at some of the 10 best fishing spots in Northwest Indiana.
Golf
Hit the links with your friends at the premiere golf courses in Northwest Indiana. White Hawk Country Club in Crown Point has four beautiful nines that will test your skills, and Lost Marsh in Hammond has 18-holes to play on their award-winning championship course. For more details on local courses, check out Golf Now! Chicago's site.
Nightlife
Breweries & Distilleries
Grab a brew and find your new favorite ales, pilsners, stouts or IPAs during your visit. With more than twenty breweries to choose from, there is one to fit your style! Pair your beer with amazing food at Byway Brewing in Hammond or Off Square Brewing in Crown Point. Relax in Michigan City on Shoreline Brewery’s patio or enjoy live music at Zorn. Go on a brewery tour and hit a few of your favorites!
If you prefer spirits, plan a visit to Journeyman - The American Factory in Valparaiso or 18th Street Distillery in Hammond. You can also take some brews or spirits home with you from the nationally-ranked and award-winning Three Floyds' retail kiosk.
Download the South Shore Passport app to find a brewery near you.
If you're into cigars, visit Karma Cigar Bar in Merrillville to find a curated selection of premium cigars and expertly crafted cocktails.
Casinos
Seek out some high-rolling action at the casinos along Lake Michigan's South Shore including Hard Rock Casino in Gary, Horseshoe Casino Hammond, Ameristar Casino East Chicago and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City. Both Horseshoe Casino and Hard Rock have performance venues featuring well-known acts all year and savory restaurants if you want to plan a complete night out.
It's All Fun and Games
If you like playing on simulators, Net Par in Munster or Crown Point or Long Shots in Schererville has your game if it's golf. Or head to Public Bar & Rec in Crown Point for their multi-sport simulators and more entertainment like AR darts and duckpin bowling. Up Your Alley has great food, cocktails and a large selection of draft beer, but the best part is they also have bowling, axe throwing, an arcade, laser tag and cybersport!
Live Music and Concerts
Head to Hobart Art Theater, The Venue at Horseshoe Casino or Hard Rock Casino for live concerts from local bands and famous artists or laugh out loud alongside well-known comedians. All year long you can find big-city concerts hosted by Hometown Jams or at festivals throughout the year. See what’s on the schedule during your visit.
Hungry yet?
After all that, you have to be hungry by this point! The restaurants and breweries have some tasty culinary creations you have to try. From a meaty steak at Gino's Prime & Surf in Dyer and BBQ ribs at Bombers in Crown Point to bacon-wrapped meatloaf at Farmhouse Restaurant in Fair Oaks and Chicago-style pizza at Miller Pizza in Gary, your stomach will thank you.
Where to Stay
Rent a vacation home for the whole group close to the beach at Beachwalk Vacation Rentals. Or stay at the Brewery Lodge in Michigan City - a 12-suite boutique hotel on a 40-acre wooded tract, complete with a craft beer and wine bar. Visit our blog post for more unique places to stay here. There are plenty of hotels to choose from, too!
