Public Gardens

The South Shore has a number of public spaces featuring formal gardens, Japanese gardens, prairies, woods and wetlands. These grounds play host to concerts, specials events and more.

While visiting, take time to enjoy the miles of trails, streams and ponds. The South Shore is home to thousands of varieties of flora and fauna - keep your eyes open during your visit.

Spend a day at Gabis Arboretum in Valparaiso which offers a diverse landscape, beautiful vistas and plenty of hiking trails. Their Railway Garden is a can't miss stop, featuring model steam trains in miniature conifer and woody plant landscape. Or explore 105 acres of nature's splendor at Friendship Botanic Gardens. 

Centennial Park in Munster is an eco-friendly environment with a dog park, walking trails and a playground for children. You'll enjoy a stroll through the gardens, entertainment on the stage, or a round of golf on their 9-hole course designed by Tim Nugent.
