South Shore Train

For more than a century, the South Shore Line has transported residents and visitors to communities along Lake Michigan’s southern shore, from Chicago to South Bend. The newly opened Monon Corridor stations now extend service south as well, from Hammond to Munster and Dyer.

TRAIN SCHEDULE

The South Shore Line is your best and most affordable connection to all the area has to offer without the traffic. Parking is free at most stations and WiFi is provided at no charge on the trains. Reduced fares are available for active military as well as seniors 65 and older, plus with the Kids Ride Free program, up to three children, 13 and younger, can ride free with a paying adult on weekends, holidays and daily off-peak trains.

Safety is a priority, too. The South Shore Line has Indiana’s only municipal transit police department, responsible for the safety and security of about 3.8 million passengers annually.

Ready to ride? The South Shore Line has been inspiring visitors to explore communities in Northwest Indiana since the 1920s. Spend a day exploring the attractions, shops and restaurants in the cities and towns. Find one itinerary idea in our A Stop off the South Shore Train: Miller Station's Hidden Gem Neighborhood blog.

Or bring your bike to ride along the trails of the park systems and Marquette Greenway — bike-friendly boarding is available year-round at designated stations.

Residents of the region have discovered the advantages of the train when planning a day trip to Chicago — a relaxing ride with no tolls or high parking fees. As the third largest city in the country, Chicago is the place to be for attractions like Navy Pier and Millennium Park, major league sports games, festivals and holiday events, big name concerts and all kinds of conventions and expos.

Whether you’re meeting friends for the day or planning a weekend adventure, it’s time to rediscover the joy of traveling by train with the South Shore Line!
