For those looking to live the lake life on your trip, we've more than got you covered. From fishing, to boating, to beaches with a breeze, Northwest Indiana has numerous lakes to meet your needs, even outside of beautiful Lake Michigan. Here are just a few locations that will let you live your perfect lake life.
Wolf Lake Memorial Park
Wolf Lake in Hammond provides an ideal setting for boating, fishing, windsurfing and a wide range of outdoor activities, with affordable on-site rentals for canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. On hot summer days, the splash pad at the Aquatic Play Center is alive with kids playing in the water. The Pavilion at Wolf Lake hosts a variety of concerts and events, including the 5-day Festival of the Lakes in July, which features a carnival and big-name entertainment. Both the Pavilion and Aquatic Center are connected to the Hammond Marina and area amenities by a pedestrian trail, making it easy to explore all the area has to offer.
Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake, covering nearly 800 acres, offers an escape for both residents and visitors, whether enjoying the serene shoreline or exploring the waters. The Cedar Lake town complex, situated along the shore, is the heart of the community, with picnic areas, a fishing pier, public access, a boat launch, scenic viewing spots and a small beach. The Museum at Lassen's Resort near the pier offers steamboat rides that allow visitors to get a glimpse of the town's past on a 1915 steamboat. Next door, Lighthouse Restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sunset over the lake. If you want to head out onto the lake, kayak and paddle board rentals are available at nearby Bugaboo's Bar and Grill.
Lake George
Lake George in Hobart is a popular destination for boating, fishing or just strolling along the lakefront. During the warmer months, several downtown restaurants have patio seating with lake views, perfect for dining al fresco. The lake serves as a scenic backdrop for Hobart’s seasonal farmers’ market and their Lakefront Festival in June, which features the popular Dam Duck Race and Dam Duck Tape and Cardboard Regatta. Whether you’re kayaking, canoeing or fishing, Lake George offers a quiet escape. The no-wake designation allows paddlers to enjoy the calm waters and peaceful surroundings for hours.
