DeMotte, Indiana

Located in the northern part of Jasper County, DeMotte is a thriving rural community rich with history. The town was named after Civil War veteran Mark DeMotte, who served as a first lieutenant with his Indiana Light Artillery. He founded and was the first dean of what is now known as Valparaiso University School of Law.

The town boasts four parks, including the recently renovated Spencer Park. In addition to housing the town pool and the Depot Museum, Spencer Park is the site of DeMotte's "Market in the Park," held every Wednesday during the summer. On Thursdays, the park hosts outdoor movie nights, complete with free popcorn.

On the second Saturday in August, DeMotte hosts the annual Touch of Dutch Festival. This fun-filled day starts off with a pancake breakfast and a 5k race. Visitors can enjoy the parade before heading to Spencer Park for a car show, live music, a wide variety of food and craft vendors, as well as traditional Dutch baked goods and wooden shoe dancers.

Golfers will enjoy the links at the beautifully renovated Sandy Pines golf course. With a sports grill, pro-shop and a spectacular new pavilion, Sandy Pines has something for everyone.

Visitors to DeMotte can dine on an array of delicious food. Stop by Yesteryear's Meats and Specialty Shoppe for savory entrees and homemade salads, as well as a terrific selection of top quality meats and gourmet items. Indulge in fabulous slow-smoked BBQ and exceptional sides at Bub's BBQ. Try the chicken wings or specialty pizzas at Sandy Pines Sports Grill.
