Portage, Indiana

Welcome to the City of Portage!

Portage has numerous amenities to offer, including location. Conveniently located 40 miles southeast from Chicago and approximately 60 miles west of South Bend, Portage is accessible from the Indiana Tollway, I-80/94 and the South Shore Commuter Rail Line. To the north we house the Ports of Indiana, proudly welcoming vessels from all around the globe!

We also have access to beautiful Lake Michigan, which offers many water activities such as fishing, boating and hiking. If you crave more outdoor activities, Portage maintains 15 scenic parks and more than 10 miles of paved trails. City parks offer a unique experience including Founder’s Square Park, home to Hannah’s Hope Playground, an all-inclusive park for kids of all ages and abilities. For those sweltering hot summer days, families can enjoy the Splash Pad also located at Founder's Square Park! The city serves as host to many annual festivals featuring local produce, arts & crafts, music and holiday celebrations.

Portage is home to many retail shops, commercial industries and restaurants. You’ll find something for everyone in our city; with Bass Pro Shops in AmeriPlex, small shops and larger grocery and shopping centers, plus plenty of entertainment, food and necessities in between! The safety and well-being of our residents and visitors is a top priority. Our Police and Fire Departments are second to none; and we strive to provide the most current technology, equipment and training available to our amazing personnel.

We hope whatever your reason for visiting Portage you have a safe and enjoyable experience and we're sure you'll agree that Portage is a great place to live, work and play.
