No matter the season, the birds that make the Region home are a spectacular sight to see. Whether you are an avid bird watcher, bird photographer or just a nature enthusiast, you will want to check out this Northwest Indiana birders' paradise, Highland Heron Rookery!
The Highland Rookery is a favorite for nature photographers, and we can see why with this wide variety of great shots!

This guy, the Green Heron, is too cool for school, sporting his trendy mohawk!

These Tree Swallows are cute as can be, resting on a branch. Tree Swallows like to feed on pesky insects like mosquitoes, helping us out in the summer months.

The Yellow-rumped Myrtle Warbler can survive colder winter temperatures compared to other Warblers due to its ability to rely on seeds and cold-hardy berries.

The American Bald Eagle is a sight to see, this majestic creature is a regular at the Highland Rookery!

If you are looking for a Belted Kingfisher, you will hear the bird before you see it. They have a very loud, distinct rattling call.

Northern Flickers are one of the few woodpecker species that migrate. They can be found nesting in holes in trees.
These are just a few of the different species of birds that you can find when visiting the Rookery. For more information about the Rookery itself, click here! Happy Bird Watching!
