When the sun shines and your belly is rumbling you’ll want to enjoy these locations with great fare and amazing views - from beautiful lakes to busy downtowns. We recommend you call ahead for availability when dining alfresco in Northwest Indiana.
Michigan City, Indiana
The area’s only raw bar, Bartlett’s Fish Camp is located in Michigan City along the water’s edge at the former Yacht Club. Patio seating can accommodate around 80 guests and on select evenings features live entertainment. Most guests come for the fresh oysters and seafood, but Bartlett’s also accommodates vegetarians. Indoor seating is also available. Be sure to order a seafood tower, which change daily.
For stunning views of Lake Michigan, Sunset Grille is the place to visit. The atmosphere is casual and the drinks are ice-cold – the perfect combination after a day at the beach. The rooftop seating (and the best place to watch the sunset) opens at 4:00 p.m. Sunday to Friday and opens at 11:00 a.m. on weekends. The lower level is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please note this is a seasonal establishment.
Enjoy a modern casual dining experience in the gorgeous dining room or outside on the patio to soak up some rays at Bulldog on the Lake in Portage. Choose from sandwiches and salads for lunch and steaks, pastas, seafood and chicken for dinner. Don’t forget to grab a craft beer while you sit among the boats at Marina Shores.
A meal at Sage Restaurant is chic and casual. Their rotating menu allows for multiple visits that leave your taste buds inspired and impressed. Chef Joe handcrafts a new menu each week – using seasonal ingredients, freshly made pastas, flatbreads and more. Stop in on a Wednesday to enjoy a bottle of wine at half price or on Tuesdays for special priced martinis. Patio seating offers views of Valparaiso’s downtown and skating under the Urschel Pavilion.
Crown Point, Indiana
You don’t have to travel to Chicago to experience a gastropub with creative food and handcrafted cocktails. Tavern on Main sits among historic buildings in Crown Point’s downtown and offers views of the iconic “Grand Old Lady” (aka the historic Lake County Courthouse). Tavern also offers live entertainment on select weekends (inside) and 18 craft beers on tap.
Cedar Lake, Indiana
Take a seat indoors to admire Cedar Lake through the windows, take a seat on the patio or enjoy a cocktail at the “boat bar.” Lighthouse Restaurant offers diners a relaxing atmosphere, steaks, pasta and seafood. While their steak is their signature dish, you can enjoy red grouper, salmon, perch and weekly specials. Sit back and watch the sun set just over the lake to the west.
Whether by boat, car or bike make a stop at Bugaboo’s Bar and Grill at the south end of Cedar Lake. Choose from comfort food and pub fare on the patio, under an umbrella. Enjoy Bugaboo’s into the evening sitting in front of their fire pit listening to live music.
